Pick-Up: From your hotel in the Shrewsbury or Welshpool area

  • Ride the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway through the Banwy Valley on a historic steam train
  • Enjoy vintage carriages and countryside scenery
  • Explore Mid Wales with Sean, stopping at notable points of interest
  • Arrive for overnight stay in Aberystwyth

DAY TWO

Day 2: Vale of Rheidol Railway & Cambrian Mountains Explorer

 

Morning:

  • Ride the Vale of Rheidol Railway from Aberystwyth to Devil’s Bridge
  • View waterfalls and deep wooded valleys

Afternoon:

  • Tour the Cambrian Mountains, discovering lakes, folklore, and remote beauty spots
  • Return for second overnight stay in Aberystwyth

DAY THREE

Day 3: Talyllyn Railway & Harlech Castle — Slate & Siege

 

Morning:

  • Journey to Tywyn for the Talyllyn Railway, part of the UNESCO Slate Heritage Site
  • Ride through the Fathew Valley aboard historic steam trains

Afternoon:

  • Visit Harlech Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • Hear stories of its seven-year siege and walk its dramatic sea-facing battlements
  • Overnight in Harlech or Porthmadog

DAY FOUR

Day 4: Welsh Highland Railway & Caernarfon Castle — Steam & Stone

 

Morning:

  • Depart Porthmadog on the Welsh Highland Railway through Snowdonia
  • Pass iconic locations like Beddgelert and Aberglaslyn Pass

Midday:

  • Explore Caernarfon Castle and/or the walled town, guided by Sean
  • Learn about Edward I, royal history, and Welsh resistance
  • Return to Porthmadog for overnight stay

DAY FIVE

Day 5: Boston Lodge Workshop Experience — Behind the Steam

 

Morning:

  • Enjoy a hands-on, four-hour experience at Boston Lodge Works, the oldest railway workshop still in operation
  • Participate in steam restoration, carriage maintenance, and engineering tasks
  • Learn from skilled staff and engage with Wales’ industrial heritage

Afternoon:

  • Tour concludes with farewell reflections and optional transport arrangements
